Current Remediation Activities
Indoor Air Testing– As part of Union Pacific’s ongoing environmental monitoring and remediation activities at the 29th and Grove site, we have reached out to owners in the designated testing area. Indoor air testing requires a signed access agreement for authorized technicians to collect indoor air samples. Results will help guide next steps.
Private Well Capping- Union Pacific completed a survey to identify private residential wells with outreach to more than 2,000 property owners. Results show no wells being used for drinking water. The survey was completed in 2024.
We’re still encouraging well owners to reach out. Funding is available to help cover the cost of capping wells.
Groundwater Monitoring- Union Pacific will continue quarterly groundwater sampling in 2025 to monitor conditions and assess remediation progress.
Water Well Survey
Well Water Reminders- The Wichita-based group Root the Power completed a door-to-door survey about private wells on behalf of the City of Wichita, Sedgwick County, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and Union Pacific.
